Ampelography is the science of identifying, naming and classifying grape varieties through detailed analysis of the unique characteristics of the plant, its morphology and the different phases of its development.
The work targets enthusiasts as well as professionals working in this field. The enthusiast will appreciate the extraordinary illustrations of the varieties while discovering the stories of the people who, in different parts of the world, helped make them famous over the centuries. The specialist will find detailed information about the distinctive aspects of the plant, which is essential in order to valorize certain varieties, some of which are rare today but were described meticulously by nineteenth-century scholars.
