Barbaresco DOCG Montersino is made from grapes that grow on the south side of the hill.
Because the soil is steep and calcareous clay, it is particularly dry in the summer. For this reason, Alessandro and his team decided to leave more leaf cover on these vines.
This results in a wine that is leaner, more fragrant and longer-lived than Barbaresco DOCG, whose grapes are grown in the same vineyard, but facing west, at a less steep and, consequently, more water-rich spot.
Montersino is aged in Slavonian oak barrels for two years and in bottles for twelve months. Compared to the basic version, it is always ready to drink a year later.
Sight
It is ruby red, with slight garnet hues.
Nose
There is an aroma of ripe cherries and complex notes of minerals, tea leaves and rose petals.
Taste
Severe ripe tannins, fresh acidity and round, feminine structure.
It is incredibly fine, balanced and the finish is long and persistent.
Pairing tips
Alessandro recommends it with a good dish of polenta and sausage or polenta and wild boar. Uncork it while you prepare the dish, and keep it near the pot; it will be perfect.
Wrong pairing: needless to say, but when Alessandro mentioned it we thought it was funny, so we’ll say it anyway… Don’t pair it with meringue!
It’s your guy if…
…After a good snowfall, you shoveled for an hour and want to reward yourself with the best polenta dish.
