Vigna Rionda does what it wants. It’s a incredible vineyard that Alessandro rents from a close producer friend of his: only 3,000 square meters of land, yielding about 1,500 bottles a year, plus a few large formats.
There are very few producers at Vigna Rionda, so we are talking prestige.
Alessandro claims that the soil here gives off a faint smell of mature manure. This note, which is by no means a flaw but rather a merit, you will find distantly in the glass.
To fully appreciate this wine, you will have to study its terroir a bit and give yourself time.
Ideally, you should have the chance to uncork at least one bottle a year, so you can understand what Vigna Rionda is for you, which, we would like to specify, is considered one of Barolo’s most characteristic crus, along with Cannubi and Cerequio.
Sight
It is garnet red with orange highlights.
Nose
It is ethereal, pleasant and intense.
Taste
It is austere but velvety, robust and harmonious. The tannins are astringent and long-lasting.
Pairing tips
Alessandro suggests trying it with some dark chili chocolate and why not, a good cigar. It is a meditation wine.
It’s your guy if…
…You want to give a close friend a unique and different experience.
