Ruché is one of Piedmont’s rarest native grape varieties, but it was never taken into consideration until the 1960s.
The credit for its rediscovery goes to a great lover of the area, Don Cauda, the “vine-growing priest” of Castagnole Monferrato. He was a great believer in the potential of this variety, and he was never wrong.
Alan, owner of Cascina Valeggia and Don Cauda’s cousin, being an agronomist and oenologist, decided to plant a ruché vineyard on his plot called La Rej.
His Ruché is thus named after that patch of land that gives a really interesting round and fragrant wine.
