Maria imagines her Barbera d’Alba Superiore as an elegant lady, carrying a wealth of experience.
It is in fact a mature Barbera, soft and enveloping, with hints of jam. Mature because it is not a vintage wine, but it expresses its best as the years go by and remains stable, fresh and fragrant.
This characteristic is due to the location of the vineyard, beyond the Rocche, about 400 meters above sea level. Here the soil, in addition to being gravelly and sandy, is rich in marls that give structure and body to the wine.
It is a wine particularly beloved by Francesco, to the point of taking his name, Chichin, which in Piedmontese dialect is its diminutive.
According to him, Barbera is a noble wine, and has nothing to envy Nebbiolo.
True, it was once considered the wine of the peasant, a bit rough and generally consumed at home, rather than sold. Today this is no longer the case we invite you to try it to believe.
Sight
It is ruby red with orange hues.
Nose
You find it complex, fruity, with hints of plum and cherry jam, but also spicy.
Taste
It is structured, enveloping and soft, but retains the typical freshness of the grape variety.
Pairing tips
Maria recommends it with a nice grill of fine roasted meats, but strictly medium rare. A few examples? A Fiorentina or an Angus steak.
Eventually, you can sip this Barbera out of a meal, as a meditation wine.
It’s your guy if…
…Need to get wrapped up: couch, blanket and a sip of Barbera Cichin are the solution to every problem!
