The story of this Barolo is more unique than rare because it stems from an oversight on Alessandro’s part.
Before the 2015 harvest, it was almost unthinkable for Alessandro to produce a Riserva because of the very long time frame: there are many years of ageing, five specifically.
One day, however, while checking the inventory in his barrique cellar, he realised that he abandoned some small wine jars that he claimed as Riserva at harvest time.
Small stocks of Barolo Classico, Comune di Serralunga d’Alba, Vigna Rionda and Lazzarito, had therefore remained.
After examining their qualities, Alessandro decided to put them together and, since five years had passed, finally bottle his Barolo Riserva.
Since then, only when he has the inspiration, does he produce this special wine.
Sight
It is garnet red with orange highlights.
Nose
Its fragrance is ethereal, pleasant and intense.
Taste
Its flavor is austere, but velvety, robust and harmonious. The sweet and soft tannins make it very elegant.
Pairing tips
The Riserva is the most classic wine you can find in Alessandro’s cellar, and by classic (his words) he means that 50-year-olds like it.
He would pair it with a good bollito with bagnetto because this dish needs a wine that does not cover the flavour of the food, but enhances it.
It’s your guy if…
…You go to your cellar and discover you have a bottle: “ah good! What a surprise, it’s also a Riserva, who knows what it’s like!”.
